Restoring Confidence, Independence & Connection Since 1996

Canines for Service is North Carolina’s longest-running, ADI-accredited service dog provider. Since 1996, we’ve been devoted to one mission: restoring confidence, independence, and connection for Veterans with service-connected disabilities.

Each service dog is custom-trained for one Veteran’s needs—whether post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), military sexual trauma (MST), traumatic brain injury (TMI), or mobility limitations. Provided at no cost to Veterans, our dogs are lifelong partners in healing, trust, and hope.

Every Donation Makes a Real Difference in the Life of a Veteran

Behind every leash is a story of courage and resilience. Meet the Veterans whose lives have been transformed through service dog partnerships, and the dogs who make it possible. Their stories are proof that service changes more than routines—it changes lives.

What Our Veterans Are Saying

“Before Hazel, the main way I managed my mental health issues was isolation—sometimes even from my own family inside my own home. I have been on multiple trips with Hazel across the nation, we leave the house almost daily, we spend more time with friends and family, my sleep schedule is much better—the list goes on and on. Through the charity of others, Hazel has been able to literally make me whole again.
Ryan & Hazel
“Smokey is the best thing that has happened to me. He helps me attend college classes, drive to my local grocery store, and goes to all my VA appointments with me. He has opened up my life in so many other ways! I’m so grateful to Canines for Service for giving me such a gift.
Tiffany & Smokey
“Since receiving Carson as my service animal, he has brought so much joy and happiness back into my life. Carson is a blessing to me in all areas of my life.
Barbara & Carson
“You aren’t giving me a dog, you are giving me a chance.
Marty & Maverick
